Here it is, the Call of Duty: WWII reveal trailer video. This years installment in the Call of Duty franchise takes us back to World War 2 and brings us back to what we know and love about Call of Duty… hopefully. The development team at Sledgehammer games is back at the helm this year and promises to bring us back to that boots-on-the-ground style of gameplay that we know and love from the earlier iterations of the franchise. I know a lot of people have made it a point to jump back into games like Black Ops 2 now that they have been made backwards compatible, so I really do hope that Sledgehammer stays true to their word, and brings us back to that style of gameplay.
So what did everyone think of the reveal trailer? I think it’s a bit of a breath of fresh air coming off of Advanced Warfare, Black Ops 3, and Infinite Warfare. As much as I love wall running and double jumps in Titanfall, I don’t like them in Call of Duty, I just don’t feel they belong. I think going back to what made Call of Duty great in the beginning will bring the franchise back to the greatness that it had been prior to these ‘future years’ of late.
My first Call of Duty experience was Call of Duty 2. I bought it alongside my Xbox 360 and was immediately hooked. Call of Duty 3 was a bit of a disappointment so I kept playing CoD2, but Call of Duty 4 was a great step towards pushing the boundaries of the game. Even though it was modern combat, it progressed the game engine, as well as the gameplay itself, into a direction that would catapult the franchise to the top of the gaming world. Unfortunately those core values got away from the game in the more recent installments, but I have faith that Call of Duty World War 2 will bring us back… so we’ll see.
